Spring Cleaning Home Maintenance Tips
Spring has finally sprung! Well, as it always does in Wisconsin – with two steps forward and one step back. Who doesn’t love a snow day in April? The last lingering traces of winter aside, warmer weather is on its way. Make the most of it by ensuring your home is ready for Spring with our handy home maintenance check list.
Check Your Roof
If you’re comfortable on a ladder (use binoculars if you’re not), inspect your roof for any signs of damage. Missing shingles, cracks, or signs of leaking will warrant a call to a professional to assess the damage.
Clean Out Your Gutters
Clean any organic debris from your gutters and downspouts, Leaves, small twigs, and dirt can collect and clog your gutters. Also look for any signs of sagging or damage to repair. Small holes can easily be caulked to prevent leaks.
Inspect Concrete Surfaces
Check for cracks or shifting on driveways, patios, pool decks, or other concrete surfaces around your home. You can probably repair minor cracks yourself, but significant damage should be handled by a professional.
Check Outdoor Faucets
Turn on your outdoor faucets to make sure they are flowing properly and didn’t suffer any damage from winter’s freezing temps.
Inspect Your Air Conditioning Unit
Clear any debris away from the unit and change filters. Spring is a great time to schedule an HVAC tune-up, or at least start your cooling system well before you’ll need to use it to ensure it’s running properly.
Get Your Outdoor Space “Spring Ready”
Check your outdoor spaces for damage – loose or rotted deck boards, nails sticking out anywhere, etc. Now is a great time to unpack your grill and outdoor furniture, pressure wash siding, decks, and patios, and stain, paint, or re-seal outdoor surfaces that require it.
Think About Yard Maintenance
Now is the time to get your lawn and landscaping ready for the warmer months. Fertilize, mow, aerate, and mulch landscaping beds. If the temps will cooperate and stay steady, you can start planting flowers/bulbs. If you rely on a landscaping company for your lawn care, make sure you get on their schedule now before their busy months start.
With a little prep work and maintenance now, you’ll be able to spend the warmer months relaxing around your home and enjoying it, instead of dealing with a broken air conditioner or other emergency repair.
